We just got back from a weekend trip to Asbury Park, NJ for this year's All Tomorrow's Parties, which was not the best one I've been to, but still pretty great. Highlights:
Silver Qluster was a nice surprise. We didn't recognize the name when we originally saw the line-up, so we were pretty excited when we realized that it was a project of Simeon from the legendary Silver Apples.
And they had some pretty amazing light effects too:
A screening of Deconstructing Dad, a documentary about Raymond Scott and Q&A with the director, Stan Warnaw, Raymond Scott's son.
JG Thirlwell's Manorexia- This was probably one of the best musical performances I've ever seen. No videos up on youtube yet of this performance, but here's one from a few years ago.
Public Enemy! None of my pictures of them turned out because I was too far away, but they put on a really good show.
Swans:
A Silver Mt. Zion:
Other highlights of the weekend: pumpkin spice latte, warm fall-y tights, yummy dinner at Bistro Ole, star-gazing, walking along the boardwalk in the rain with awful umbrellas, hand-blown glass pumpkin and ghost from a shop on the boardwalk, a Tillie pillow for our couch, red velvet pancakes at a little brunchy place called Toast, the old casino building between Ocean Grove and Asbury Park with its murals (stole this one from Jon):
And of course, the ocean:
A couple other cool shots from ATP:
Not sure which band was playing here:
It was a good weekend.
Oh, the picture at the beginning of this post is an old postcard of Wesley Lake's famous swan boats, which you can still ride. We didn't actually go to the lake to see the swan boats, but I was pretty in love with the idea of them.
